A few weeks ago I came across a great video by Sarah Hawkinson where she recreated Instagram outfits using what was in her closet. While I regularly gather inspiration for outfits from Instagram, blogs, and Pinterest, it never occurred to me to talk about it. It gave me an idea, which I developed into something I am excited to share with you.

I am starting a regular style series where I share an outfit and what I used as inspiration. For a fun twist, I will pull prompts from a jar for every post. There’s somewhere over a hundred prompts in the jar, and each is unique. The exceptions are the 5-8 wildcard prompts so I can make one up on the spur of the moment.

What I love about this is that it really fits the vision of Wind & Spindle—living well and creating slow in an instant era. It adds a bit of purpose behind the practice of browsing the internet for inspiration by using the ideas and images I save.

I’ll be drawing inspiration from blogs, Instagram, Pinterest, and other random sources. I tried to balance it out so there will be a lot of variety. Some posts might be a close copy of an outfit with my own closet, others might capture the essence of someone’s style, and others might produce a look that is very different. I don’t just follow people who share my same style, so I will talk about how to draw inspiration from people whose tastes are different from yours.

Speaking of drawing….

I’ve picked the first prompt! I know, I blurred it, but I didn’t want to spoil the surprise. It so happens to be the perfect start to this series to show you what it is all about. (The first post might not be until next week or the week after, depending on how well my camera works/is replaced.)

Are you excited about this series? Do you have an idea about someone, something, or a source I can draw inspiration from? Let me know and I might just add it to the jar!

Where do you draw inspiration from?
