The prompt I pulled from my marvelous jar of inspiration was one of the more open prompts for the Inspired Style series: vintage.
My approach to the prompt was to consider how to make an outfit as vintage as possible. I thought I could do this through entirely
The starting piece was this high-collar blouse. It’s my most vintage style blouse, and I planned to wear it with a plaid maxi skirt for a bit of a twist. Then I remembered this skirt, which I had recently purchased. Because it is a cotton and linen blend I had thought of it as a summer piece. I realized this would be a great way to wear it into the cooler months.
I wore my locket, my pearl earrings, and some black flats. Some dark brown oxfords of nude flats would have looked nice too. I reversed the belt and tied it as a bow in the back. I carried this crochet bag. The color looks a bit different in the images (it matched the darker blue better in person), but I thought it might also help give the impression of the outfit being vintage. (Though a beaded or embroidered bag would have been better!)
This look is almost a costume because the style is from over 100 years ago, but I really enjoy it. I’m glad I took the time to create a look like this, it gave me some ideas on how to imitate that era in other outfits I wear.
What are your thoughts? Too vintage? What do you like, and what would you have done differently? Let me know in the comments!
If you haven’t already, check out the first installment of this series. As always, if you have an idea for a prompt leave them in the comments!
